I included this piece in our August newsletter, but many of you were interested in seeing it posted here!

Establishing routines at school and home are a great way to support your child’s success and allow the days to flow more smoothly.  Technology has made many things much easier, but it also presents some challenges.  Many parents have questions about how to establish boundaries. Here are some tips for maintaining a healthy balance!

  • Be a good example with your own use of technology.  Model and teach healthy habits that will stay with your child for life.  It’s all about balance!

  • Establish tech-free times, such as at the dinner table, and tech-free zones, such as the bedroom.  Be sure that children check-in devices with you for the night so that they don’t stay up too late or have their sleep interrupted. A good rule of thumb is to put devices away 30 minutes before bedtime.

  • Use it as leverage.  For example, “When you show me your completed homework and your chores are done, then you can have….” (30 minutes playing your video game, tablet, etc.)

  • Supervise and set boundaries for time spent using technology solely for entertainment.  (Using a computer to complete homework should not count against time on their device.) Electronics should not take priority over daily physical activity, homework & reading, family time, and chores.  Once those are complete, there really isn't much time left for “free” time on technology.

  • Studies show that anxiety, depression, and loneliness have increased in teens as the use of social media has increased.  Protect them with time limits and talk to them about staying safe online. Remind them of how much you value them.  Often.

  • There’s no substitute for face-to-face time with your child and giving them your full attention.  Playing a game, taking a walk, eating a meal together, reading together, etc. are all great investments in healthy family relationships.

Laura Morlan

From Enterprise Elementary School District:

Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone that has been impacted by the CARR Fire. Please know that Enterprise Elementary School District is here to support you. We want to provide you with some important information to help you plan for the upcoming school year.

Our school offices are open and ready to answer any of your questions. We are here to serve all students.

The first day of school is Wednesday, August 15. Our schools are ready to serve students and we assure families we are here to provide a safe, caring, supportive learning environment.

We will continue to post resources on our EESD webpage to help families during this difficult time. Shasta County Office of Education also has resources posted on their webpage.   Please contact your school if you have specific questions about attendance or enrolling new students.

We have received several questions about how you can help. Shasta County Office of Education has created a Go Fund Me Account set up to support families. You can access the Go Fund Me Account on the EESD Website. Funds will be used for helping with school clothes and school supplies for students from preschool through high school who have lost their homes

Thank you first responders and firefighters. We are #ReddingStrong and we will come together to care for each other during these difficult times. Enterprise Elementary School District is here to serve you.

How you can contribute....

  • Go Fund Me - Students

    • Funds will be used for students from preschool through high school across the county who have lost their homes for helping with school clothes and school supplies.

On behalf of the  Mistletoe school community, I want to congratulate you and your children! Our school was recently recognized as a 2017 - 2018 Educational Results Partnership (ERP) Honor Roll School for our high achievement and student success! The Honor Roll program, sponsored by the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence (CBEE), is part of a national effort to identify higher-performing schools and districts that are improving student outcomes.

The 2017 - 2018 ERP Honor Roll utilizes public school student achievement data to identify successful schools and districts. Our school stands above others in the state because of our demonstrated ability to get students to grade level achievement and beyond. Schools that receive the ERP Honor Roll distinction have demonstrated consistently high levels of student academic achievement, improvement in achievement levels over time, and a reduction in achievement gaps among student populations.

We did not apply for this award. Our results led them to us! Because of our accomplishment, we will be featured on the ERP Honor Roll website and a banner has been designed for us to hang proudly at our school.

We are thankful for the hard work of our students and teachers here at Mistletoe. This recognition is a testament to the sustained focus on academic results and commitment to student success that our school and parent community hasshown over the years.

Again, congratulations and let’s keep up the great work!
